Today we had our first Seminis Mavericks team meeting for 2009. We had about 7 people show up (and there are others who have expressed interest but who couldn't make it today). I'll be pleased with a 60% conversion rate. As our fearless captain John told me in a follow up email, "we can't lose the momentum". October, which is when the SoCal MS Ride is this year, is a long way off, but it's about community and friendship and doing something for a good cause -- not just about the ride this Fall.
I drove into the office today but brought my bike, so I rode home and will ride back into work tomorrow. It took me 1 hour 7 minutes - about 4 minutes faster than my PR. I'm focusing on dropping the weight and have a goal to be at 178 pounds by mid-May. If I just chip away at it, I know I can do it. If I can ultimately get down to about 170, I can make the ride home in less than an hour, I'm certain. There's only about 500 feet of elevation gain, so I have to start hitting some hills to shed the weight and get into peak condition. Having a team will help.
