Official Race Time

Here's the breakdown of my performance at the Spirit of Racine Triathlon on July 20, 2008.

Swim = 28:11 - 8 minutes faster (we think that the swim course was a bit short
Transition #1 = 3:12 - SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!
Bike = 2:31:39 (22.2 mph) - about 1 mph faster
Transition #2 = 1:51 - GOOD!
Run = 1:57:31 (pace of 8:58 / mile) - about 25 seconds per mile faster
Total = 5:02:25 - about 19 minutes faster

*Comparisons are to my 2007 race results.

Relative to the elites, the best of which finished in 3:49:58, it's no great shakes, but I'm pleased. For more on the elite athletes' performances, check out the Journal Times article.

I've made some solid progress, but I still have some work to do on my run. In my age group, I was in the top 16% on the swim, top 26% on the bike, but top 48% on the run. If I improve my run to a 8:01 / mile pace, I could be in the top 25% rather than the top 34%. Only question is, how to drop my running time by about 1 minute / mile!
