The Beauty of Maintenance

There is something beautiful and liberating about being in maintenance mode. I've actually gotten in a number of good workouts over the past few weeks, and this past week has been really good.

Yesterday I did a run from my folks' house here in Napa and the scenery (vineyards, mountains) took my mind off of the run to the point by the time I completed my out and back, I logged about six miles and had an average heart rate of 168 (a little higher than I had intended). It's gorgeous out here and very inspiring.

This morning I squeezed in a swim, my first in several months. I actually felt pretty relaxed. I didn't set any records, but I managed over 2000 yards and haven't fallen asleep yet!

The past few weeks, I've been doing the Kathy Smith Weight Loss videos - less because I'm focused on losing weight (although I'd still like to take off about 10 pounds), and more because the program offers me an alternative to the standard weight training and makes my glutes and hamstrings BURN!!! It's obviously working something :-). It also builds a pilates-like core training that I appreciate.

I stil need to figure out my plan for 2008, but right now, I'm enjoying just kind of doing what I want, when I want to.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
