Some of my colleagues expressed some doubt as to my performance jump from 19.2 mph in 2006 compared to the 21.4 mph average that I achieved in Racine. In order to keep my name clean relative to potential accusations around performance enhancing drugs, I have conducted a proactive scientific review of the incremental 2.2 mph as outlined below:
COMPONENT INCREMENTAL MPH
New bike (with aero bars) 0.7
More consistent training 0.5
Better nutrition 0.4
Better weather conditions 0.4
Timing of triathlon (later in season) 0.2

2.2
NOTE: Statistically significant at 99% confidence interval that all measurements +/- 0.5 mph.
