Ok, so the Racine race that I finished last weekend is commonly referred to as a Half-Ironman or 70.3 series, because the combined distance of the swim (1.2 miles), bike (56 miles) and run (13.1 miles) is 70.3 miles. Well, I learned today that HFP Racing, the coordinators of the Racine event, are working with another outfit to offer a 101 series (1.86 mile swim, 80.6 mile bike and 18.6 mile run) in 2008.
Now, I have to decide whether to aim at improving my 70.3 time or increase my total mileage in 2008 and attempt Triathlon 101. It would mean the difference of being out on the road for 5 hours, 20 minutes OR a grueling 7.5+ hours. I realize that I have a bit of time to decide, but training takes a lot of preparation (and longer races generally mean MORE training) and these races fill up months in advance (races like Ironman Wisconsin sometimes fill up within weeks of entries being accepted!).
So that is my issue of the day to ponder!
